ILGenWeb Project: Putnam County





Putnam County was formed in 1825 from Fulton County and is named after Israel Putnam, a general in the American Revolution. The county seat is Hennepin. Putnam County is the smallest county in Illinois and its current county boundaries include a total of 172.22 square miles of which 160.16 square miles are land and 12.06 square miles of water.
